My First Transiberian Orchestra Experience

This is definitely a must see for any who have not seen it. The experience began by riding to the Pentagon with Dale, Robert and Bobby-O in the Mark's van. That was a first as well Pentagon City Mall. Yes, I know how old am I and how long have I lived in this area to have never been to Pentagon City mall. We grabbed some grub there and then hit the metro to the Verizon Center. We met up with everyone at the Verizon center which included: Jessup Family, Underwoods, Eileen Morgan and the list goes on. It was definitely an experience that I highly recommend and may look into doing next year..

On the Road Again...

This past weekend was  a refreshing weekend to say the least.  It was a nice drive up to Mountville, PA to visit the Garman's.  We arrived up there on Friday around 3pm and did not leave until Sunday at 4pm.  It was a much needed time away and it was a joy to see Colby, Annie and the Girls.  Friday night we enjoyed some live music in downtown Lancaster at the "Building of Character".  It truly did have a lot of character.  Saturday was a trip to the oldest indoor market where Josh and I purchased a lot of goodies like home-made jelly and organic tea, yum!  Saturday also included some rounds of Blokus and Loot, Annie out did herself at both of these games.  However, we caught her cheating the first round of Blokus (not intentional, we think)!  Sunday we went to church and then out to dinner!  Colby decided to take us on a riding tour of the whole entire town of Lancaster, before we got to eat!  Haley was not impressed as she screamed that her, "back was hot" from the back of my car.  We finally arrived at Chille's and enjoyed dinner.  At the end Darcy informed everyone that now she could have a, "tookie".  It was hard to leave, but the time we had was fun.  Thanks to Aunt Snookie for hosting us in her beautiful home.

The Annual

Well it is that time of year again.  The annual day after Thanksgiving, Christmas tree hunt.  Josh and I have done this every year since we have been married.  However, this year we decided to invite Jonathan, Sydney, Kevin Dowker and the girls...  It was fun times, I was of course the last one to find my tree.  I mean you can't choose a tree unless you view everyone they have on the lot!  It was a lot of fun and my mom and dad joined us as they have every other year.  We got a short needled blue spruce this year as opposed to the long needle cheep-o tree we have gotten every other year.  I have to admit that I do like it more than I thought I would.  Well another year has come and gone, we will see how the tradition turns out next year.

Walk down memory lane, 80's...

Well today during my lunch break I got this notion to google 80's stuff. Wow was I surprised how much I had forgotten about, but how much I had also remembered. The reason I started the search is because I had a random memory about a toy I use to play with or doll I should say: Hugga Bunch. I googled it and there they were just like I had remembered. This led to a massive search of everything 80's. A few things that popped up:

Pillow People
Garbage Pail Kids
Alf
Lil Miss Makeup
Popples
Pound Puppies
Pogo Ball
Jewels
Cabbage Patch Dolls
Care Bears
Glo Worms
My Little Pony
Rainbow Brite
She-ra
Teddy Ruxpin
Wuzzles
Gumby
California Raisins
and last but definitely not lease the Pocket Rocker!!!!!

I hope some of you out there can remember a few of these classic items and take the walk down memory lane with me...

Happy Birthday Brittany!

I attended my first crayon party last night  and I have to admit it was interesting.  I definitely had fun, how can you not hanging out with Brittany, Bobby - O, Ben, Stacy and the list can go on!  The object of this party was to dress in all one color, hence the title crayon party!  I was a black crayon and Josh pooped out and did not participate.   Josh was going to be a red crayon but the only red things we could find for him to wear Josh said NO!  I guess wearing a red bathrobe and leggings to Bud and Lisa's house for the first time may be a little much...  The party was fun Brittany celebrated number 19 and got a lot of nice gifts!

What's wrong with this?

"Working for a pro-life Christian organization affords me at times to keep up with the controversial issues that arise regarding abortion. Today I was handed an article from the Free Lance Star entitled, "It's Doomsday for the pro-life movement". I often laugh at these headings, because they sound so ridiculous. However, this heading did not keep me from reading the content. To sum it up it basically talked about how the advances pro-life organizations and government have made in the past 8 years are basically down the tubes as soon as Obama takes office. It hit on the fact (which I have clung to all along) that pro-life individuals and organizations, "will need to rely not on changing laws - though pro-lifers should still try to do that when they can - but on changing hearts and minds." It encouraged people to get involved in pregnancy center work and ultimately sharing with women that they have other options. It further shared that Obama plans on approving the Freedom of Choice Act. "The Freedom of Choice Act, which Barak Obama says will be the, "first thing" he signs as president." FOCA will nationalize abortion, superseding and overturning abortion restrictions in every state". I hate to keep quoting, but there is too much to not! The next one is in regard to a speech Obama made to Planned Parenthood. "As Obama made clear in that speech, he views abortion - delivery sevices as basic government services - services in support of a woman's "fundamental right" to an abortion. The article later quoted that, "Obama's defenders tried to explain away his votes in Illinois rejecting medical care for newborns who survive abortions." Ok I am done quoting.. However, by the end of the article I felt a nauseating feeling in the pit of my stomach. Then I noticed the article that followed this article.

The article was entitled "Obama won, but so did traditional marriage". The article basically was talking about how California passed a law 52% to 48% in favor of "eliminating the right of same sex couples to marry". Granted this was after 11,000 couples were permitted to marry this past summer! That is beside the point though. What caught my eye and really started turning my wheels was this. The writer of the article started the article out talking about how he had witnessed the civil rights battle of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. He went on to explain the movement and extreme effort put up by the late Dr. Martin Luther King and "blacks" as he quoted to overcome racial oppression. He shared how he understands the excitement that African American's are having toward the election of Barak Obama as the nations first African American president. This was the quote that got me though, "It is hard to imagine such racial oppression, or to appreciate the immense effort by blacks for the smallest gains toward the America's ideal that "All men are created equal".

The thought that immediately popped in my head was babies are created, why do they not fall into the "created equal" category. Why is their life not valued, they are being murdered. How can we have an African American man whose own culture/race was being oppressed and I'll go as far as to say murdered trying to legalize the same act. A man whose culture/race fought to have the simple freedoms of sitting wherever they wished on a bus. A culture who as I stated above wanted everyone to know and to believe that, "All men are created equal".

My brain is fried at this point, but I can't help but feel that this is messed up. I also stop and think that the US has come a long way as far as racial prejudice and I am glad for that. However when you really look at it, it has taken almost 60 years to get our country to a point of electing an African America president. I pray it does not take that long for us to see man's views and feelings change and their hearts to be pricked to see the wrong that surrounds killing "created" unborn children.

"There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death."
Proverbs 14:12

3rd Annual Reformation Party

Well we pulled it off! This was the third year that the Bible study group had our pumpkin carving, reformation party. The tradition was held down to the tiniest detail, thanks to the Quann family. We started the evening with the usual delicious Minestrone soup made by Donna Quann. It was delicious. There were other yummy goodies like cookies, caramel apples and some yummy bread made by Kevin Benedict. Good fellowship and good food was had around the dinner tables and then we moved on to the pumpkin carving contest! This was quite a sight. We have increased in numbers and therefore had to have four carving tables this year! It was great to see every one's personalities and talents show through in this activity and every year I am shocked at how many people have never carved a pumpkin. This year the carving techniques spanned from the traditional carving kits and knives, to Beth with her pottery sculpture tools, to Jonathan with his automatic jigsaw (no one was surprised)! The pumpkins ranged in size from huge to very tiny and the carvings ranged from very original to very stenciled!!! (Pictures to come soon) The carving wound down and the judging commenced. The tradition held to Dan and Donna Quann serving as judges and they had a very hard time deciding. When they found out they had to narrow it down to only one pumpkin, it got even tougher. However, they managed to make a timely decision and chose the "Carl's Ice Cream" pumpkin carved by Krissy Hinton... Krissy accepted her prize that consisted of a book on Martin Luther and a coffee mug with a variety of tea's and honey sticks! We ended the night with a group picture and we look forward to next year the 4th Annual Reformation party!

Little Update!!!

This weekend Josh and I made the trek back to Lynchburg for Homecoming.  Why did we choose this homecoming, well we are not sure, but all in all it was fun.  We began the trip with a nice slow drive through the mountains to find a brewery we wanted to visit.  We drove a way to Lynchburg we had never driven before and it was absolutely beautiful...  We then met up with our good friends Christine and Glenn and stayed with them for the weekend.  We had plans to attend the LU football game, but the weather scared us off and we opted for the hockey game that was Saturday evening.  Saturday morning I awoke very early to attend a J. Crew warehouse sale.  This was my first experience at this and boy was it intense.  You wouldn't believe what people will do when they can get $300 shoes for $30...  With this being my first time I did not have as much strategy as others did of obtaining wished for items.  However, next time watch out I may wear Josh's scrum cap and I will not be pushed from my spot!!!  However, I did come away with roughly $1000 worth of clothes for $150 I love good deals...  The Hockey game was great, we secured Milton milkshakes before we left the burg and Sunday was good too seeing how the Redskins won!!  All in all it was a great weekend.

Memorable Week...

I know, I know it has been a decade since I last blogged it seems. I have to say that this week has been very eventful, evoked lots of memories and created a lot of memories. Friday started it off where Josh and I got a lot of time to spend together. You would think we always spend time together and yes we do, but this was quality time. Saturday then led to Sydney's 3rd birthday and Sunday led to me doing one of my favorite things singing. However, this was even more great I got to help lead praise and worship at my parents church and also sing a song with my dad. Sunday was a breath of fresh air. We meaning Josh, myself, Damian, Sydney and Jonathan took a trip to Skyline and ate at a restaurant their with a panoramic view over the mountains. It was gorgeous. We saw a baby bear, dear and 18 wild turkeys. I will post the pictures later or on facebook... Then today I am celebrating my 3 year anniversary. I am so excited. Looking back over the past three years, this morning I had to stop and journal. I had to journal things that I have accomplished, things I am still working on and things God has ultimately blessed me with. I don't know where the past three years have gone, but I hope the next three don't go as fast... Then lastly Tuesday marked one year of me dealing with MS symptoms. As I think about this I am reminded of how quickly your life can change. Within a blink things can be totally different. I am reminded to not take life for granted, to not take what I have been created for for granted. I am reminded that I am not promised tomorrow and that I must live today to the fullest. I am reminded and humbled to see where God has brought me from one year ago. One of the biggest obstacles I have faced thus far was presented to me a year ago yesterday. However, I can see God's hand and I know He is in control. I pray I continue to live a life that glorifies Him in and out of the obstacles I may face...

A very fun weekend...

Last weekend was a very fun weekend.  Friday Josh and I did some shopping which is always fun.  Saturday we awoke to a very busy day ahead of us.  At 11am we had practice at the church for the Garman send off celebration.  Then Josh had Rugby against Quantico, thank you Kevin for going so I did not have to sit alone!  Then next for me was Aimee's bridal shower.  It is amazing the things grown women will do at baby and bridal showers!  After that was go get cleaned up for the Garman celebration service.  The service was amazing and God was truly glorified through that evening of praise and worship.  The Garman's are a very special family and we will miss them greatly.  After the service I went home to make a breakfast casserole for the next AM for the church breakfast event.  Then I finally got some sleep...  The breakfast at the church was topped off by "Chef Pelt"...  What a sight that was to see Jason in his pampered chef apron serving up hot, hot, hot omelets...  It was a great time of fellowship.  Then nothing could have ended the day better than seeing the Washington Redskins beat the Philly Eagles on the road...  Whoohooo!

Interesting Article....

In my personal opinion all politicians are "shady". They all promise the moon and more. That's probably enough said on that. I am not really one to attend protest rallies, carry picket signs or post a presidential nominee sticker on my car. However, this was an interesting article. Fox news had coverage on a lot of the things mentioned in this article today. The article at times is repetitive, but if you just keep going it has a lot of good information.

It's been a while!

Josh and I have been out of the scene for about two weeks.  It seems like we haven't seen some people in years, though it has only been a few weeks.  Our mishaps with our vacation being cancelled caused some scheduling issues and therefore we have not been at church for two weeks.  It feels like longer, but its not been.  Nothing major has happened except for us going on vacation to TN not FL.  The hurricanes screwed that one up so officially no beach trip for Jadey this year.  That is like a sin!!  However, TN was fun we were roughly about an hour and forty five minutes away from Gatlinburg in a town called Crossville.  It was very quite and peaceful.  Josh and I did a lot of swimming, playing tennis, playing Wii, reading and we visited a few wineries.  All of these things were fun, but it was nice to get home and sleep in my own bed and see family and friends.  I am hoping the fall schedule slows down and is not so hectic.  However, it is not prooving to go that way just yet.  We will see I guess.

Life Notes....

Well summer has come to an end and the busy life is slowing down a little.  However the fall brings projects that Josh and I have been putting off for a while.  Hi ho,  hi ho its off to work we go!!  However, fall also brings my favorite time of year.  I was just saying yesterday how I love the smell of fall, the leaves, the crisp air, pumpkins and the list goes on.  The fall also brings our wedding anniversary, so we are excited to celebrate that as well as Sydney's birthday!  Due to the busy times we have been having I was a little frazzled to say the least last week.  However, Josh being the dear heart that he is decided on Wednesday to go get me some flowers.  He tried to be really sweet and get them from the same place we got our wedding flowers, however they are no longer in business.  So he had to settle for what he said were less than par flowers, but I enjoyed them all the same.  Then a very monumental event took place this past Monday.  Josh had to stay home to go to the doctor.  On my lunch break I met him for lunch and then he said the unbelievable words.  "Jadey, I think it is time I lay my velcro wallet to rest".  He has had this stinking wallet forever.  Whenever we go somewhere that is reserved or quiet, it always seems he is paying that evening or something.  As he opens the wallet the loud velcro tearing sound ensues, ahhh!  So on Monday he laid the velcro wallet to rest and purchased a new wallet.  It was a said day at Burke Manor!!!  There are lots of exciting things upon us this fall and we are very much looking forward to each day God blesses us with.

The Joy of Company!

The past few weeks have brought many exciting guests to Burke Manor.  Roughly two weeks ago we had the honor of hosting Dowker, Mildred (aka Prudence Rose), Elliott & Beth for a nice dinner and a movie.  Good times were had.  Then last weekend we had a blast with the whole Marks' clan.  It was quite a house full, but we were overjoyed by the wonderful conversation and the "grilled salad" that Patty prepared.  With having two very busy weekends the past two weeks it was nice to have a little break this weekend.  Friday was very low key with Josh and I enjoying a night of dueling in Wii Mario Kart.  Saturday morning I awoke and prepared for my dream day of the Anne of Green Gables Marathon.  For those who have never had the wonderful opportunity to watch this series of movies you are definitely missing out.  I had the joy of watching them with the Hinton clan and it was lots of fun.  The picture I attached is from the best part of the movies!  Saturday evening I experienced another favorite Dutch Blitz with the fam.  Today started off with SBC fellowship then off to Jonathan's for Josh's dad's 65th Bday and then ended with Dowker, Josh and myself dueling on Mario Kart.  It was very cool we actually got to duel with friends over the Internet who were in NC.  These friends host an annual college reunion weekend and Josh and I could not attend this year, so this was a fun way to still connect with them.  I am not sure what Monday will have in store, but I hope it is restful whatever it is.

Living in the moment!

The alarm sounds at 5am, way too early for me! However, I had no choice today was my long awaited appointment at John Hopkins Medical Center. Josh and I proceeded to get ready and make the 2.5 hour trip up good ole I-95. Josh was a blessing and offered to drive, so I would not be more stressed than I already was. We realized that we got wrong directions after missing the exit for 495 and having to take 395 through DC. I am telling you one thing, there are some areas in DC you do not want to get turned around in. We finally arrived at 8:30am in Baltimore and made are way to JHMC. We parked, walked in, checked in etc etc. My appointment was at 10am and we actually did not get seen until 11:30am, but no big deal. The doctor I was given seemed to take his time with us, ran several tests and attempted to look at my MRI scans I had brought with me. However, once again dooped by Mary Washington Hospital. I hate that place by the way. MWH sends me with a disc of my MRI scans that the doctor can not open nor view. Basically long story short the doctor shares that he feels that I definitely have MS, but he can not give me his 100% opinion/diagnosis until he sees my other three brain scans. He talks with Josh and I about his concerns about me not being on medicine, then in the next breath says that the medicine is only 40% effective. The doctor shares that he wishes he could tell us more, but research has only discovered so much and that was it. Needless to say I was disappointed due to several things. Disappointed that the brain scans did not work, disappointed that he told me at any moment I could get a lesion on my spinal column and be paralyzed, disappointed that he was not willing to entertain any of my holistic treatment and new nothing about holistic treatment, overall disappointed. The only thing beneficial that came from meeting him is that he is pretty certain that I have lapsing remitting MS which overall is good news. This is a form of MS that somewhat "heals" its self, unlike the progressive forms that just get worse over time.

After all that as Josh and I walk back to the car I began thinking. I have another brain scan in December and that will help determine a lot as far as direction for this disease. However, I thought, you know I could start taking the main stream meds and have severe side effects come from them and wish I would have never taken them. Or I could continue doing what I am doing and something not good happen and wish I would have started taking the meds. Either way I am possibly going to have "bad" results. So my end thought was to continue the holistic approach until I get more direction in December. In the mean time I am going to live life to the fullest and in the moment. I am going to enjoy each moment that God gives me to laugh, cry, breath, walk etc. etc. Don't get me wrong, when I say in the moment I don't mean recklessly. What I mean is that I am not going to take anything for granted and I am not going to turn down opportunities to make memories..

So yesterday that is what Josh and I did. We spent the rest of the day in downtown Baltimore, visiting shops, seeing museums and just enjoying the day together. I had the best time with no planning involved. I had an amazingly fun day in a fun city with my very best friend in the whole world.

A night for a few "lasts"

Last night like every other Monday night "Burke" Bible study was had.  It was good to see everyone, since Josh and I have been MIA the past two weeks at church we had missed alot of faces.  The first of the "lasts" was that August 25, 2008 marked the last night of "Burke" Bible study as we know it.  God has been challenging Josh for some time now to take Bible study in a new direction and that talk happened last night.  From this point forward Bible study will still consist of 60 min or so of studying doctrine/Bible.  However, 60 min worth of prayer requests will cease and small accountability groups will commence.  The groups will focus on prayer, encouragement and heart felt confession.  Josh focused on I John 1:9 and James 5, sharing with everyone what God has been teaching and challenging him with.  The new groups will launch in about two weeks, hopefully giving everyone plenty of time for self reflection and prayer of how groups should be divided.

Then lastly of the "lasts"!  It was the last Bible study for a while for Kristen, Michelle and J Lo...  Yes, there is a tear!  We will miss these guys greatly, but know that they are off to a different portion of their life's journey.  We wish them well, they are in our prayers and we love each of them dearly.

My Heart Sank

Now time for a thought from Josh Burke!

For those that have known me for the past two years, know that my favorite dog in the whole world is one Huebert.  It has been a long road with him thus far with his bought with potty training and not listening too well.  All in all he is still my favorite dog.  There is something about him that makes my heart smile when I come home from work and see him waggin his tail and happy as can be to see me.  Seriously the dog freakin rocks!  Tonight I went out around 10:30pm to bring him in for the night much later than usual.  To find an empty collar hanging from the crape myrtle in my back yard.  I immediately fell to my knees and asked God, "oh why have you done this to me?".  I called out, "Huebert" and heard no response, not a bark, rustle of leaves nothing.  I proceeded to bring Angel in grab another leash and flash light and sought out to find my lost pup.  As I walked out onto the deck, Jadey opened the basement door and asked if everything was ok.  I looking back at her with tear soaked eyes said, "No, Huebert is gone".  I felt it was hopeless, it was late, dark and I had already called for him to no avail.  He was lost, without a collar and identification.  I thought if I was lucky he might show up the next morning around food time.  Then to my joy I heard Jadey say, "Josh he is right there".  I turned around and stooped down and starting calling my little bups.  He came right to me as he always does, I stopped to reflect on how freakin awesome this dog is.  To shed a little light on the situation Jadey stated, "did you really think he was going to leave a place where he gets fed two times daily?".

Update...

I have been posting here and there, but nothing that has really been giving a life update!  This summer has been rather busy and has mostly consisted of a lot of birthday's and visiting friends and family.  I visited my grandparents who I haven't seen in a long while (mom's parents).  That was a good time and Josh got to play my grandfathers 1960 something Martin guitar he was lovin it.  Then we celebrated Lion-o's 1st birthday.  Yes, I celebrated the cats birthday.  I got him a new toy for his present.  Then we celebrated my brother's  birthday the annual trip to China Jade my bro's favorite place to eat.  This same evening Josh played a gig at Camile's good times were had.  Throughout the summer we have been frequenting Busch Garden's since we got season passes.  About two weeks ago we met our neighbors down their and they invited us to stay with them at their families house in Glouster.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  Then today we head out to Josh's great aunt Edna's 100th birthday, yes I said 100th!  It should be fun...

Moments of Cheer

Yesterday was a rather stress filled day for me. I was very swamped at work and on top of that it was MONDAY!!! However, I would much rather be swamped at work that doing nothing at all. The whole day was so overwhelming that I almost forgot about my scheduled massage appointment at 3pm. Once I remembered it was like a weight was lifted off and I was like "yessss". However then my brain starts to turn and I realize, oohh after my massage I must go home and do chores. So I just continued to focus on the positive and headed out to my massage from work around 2:50pm. Upon arriving at the massage place I get out of my car and start heading toward the building. As I am walking and turning the ringer off on my phone I hear, "that is Jadey, Jadeeyy". I look over only to see the whole Garman family eating at Camille's. I was so over joyed to see them, I thought Sunday was it for a long while. I proceeded over and talked to them and gave as many hugs as I could. Also it wouldn't be a meeting with the Garman's if Hailey did not make some sort of close observation followed by an inquisitive question. I notice Hailey was starring at my feet, she then looks up and asks, "Ms. Jadey why are you wearing my dad's shoes"? Colby and I start laughing, because he, Mila and myself all have the same brown flip flops. I then explain this to Hailey as Darcy runs over and in her little gibberish restates that I have her dad's shoes on! This meeting with the Garman's really put the icing or cheer should I say in the remainder of my day. This was followed with Bible study which always makes me "cheerful" and it was a sweet time of praise and worship and praying for the Indonesia team. All in all the day was sweet and the little moments of cheer that were sprinkled throughout it made it even sweeter.

DREAMS = I will miss the Garman's

Unlike my husband who could write novels from his dreams, my dreams are usually tid bits of info etc. that make no sense. Much like last nights dream that made no sense, but at the same time it did. I have been corresponding with Annie Garman this week in regards to their move and meeting them for dinner etc. In my mind I had not been dwelling on my correspondence with Annie, but my dream proved otherwise. I will not try to explain the dream in too much depth, because it won't make sense. However, it basically gave me a glimpse of how long I have known Colby and Annie taking me back to a dorm type setting at LU. In this dorm setting there were lots of other people ( I did not know who they were) but Colby and Annie were there along with the girls. For whatever reason one of the rooms in the dorm was housing the old school band "Journey". Upon realizing this (the band) in my dream the dorm setting started to look more and more like the house Colby and Annie lived in while in Iceland the first time. Yes, I guess we could get interpretive and say the Garman's are embarking on a "journey" to Iceland or it could have been a lot of bad "80's" music references this week from Jonathan. However, next in the dream it took me to Annie and Colby's house in Stafford where I was helping them move, but at the same time the "new tenants" were moving in. I was being stressed out in the dream because I was uncontrollably crying and was upset that I was messing up their carpet. Go figure a stress about cleaning!

Ok yes, that is a whole lot of rambling to basically say the Garman family will be missed horribly. I awoke to immediately start praying for them, I am not sure what our dreams mean, but whenever I dream about anyone I use it as a reminder to pray for them. So I say all that and it boils down to I have crazy dreams. However, if they remind me of people I can pray for and remind me of what dear relationships God has blessed me with I am ok with the craziness!

Fall in love??

I don't really know where this post is going to go other than I am thankful for the things that occur in my life to remind me of LOVE.  Mostly things that remind me of God's love for me, but also things that remind me of how much I am loved by my family, friends and husband.  As I go through my journey with my health issues I am reminded by people daily of God's love.  I am reminded by the daily notes I get that someone is praying for me and that God is sufficient to meet all my needs.  I am reminded of God's love by the generosity that is shown by co-workers, doctors, church members to help me or pray for me in a very tough time.  I am reminded of God's love and that my family loves me when they weekly sacrifice to help me clean my house so I won't get stressed or overwhelmed.  I am not saying these things to boast or brag, only to say that God is good.  At a time when I felt helpless, God provided everything I could have needed and more..

You may wonder, how is the title related to this blog.  Well I think it is because in our culture you often hear: "I fell in love, that is not who I fell in love with, I am falling in love etc".  You get my point.  I immediately think of Josh of course and his continuous understanding, grace and love that he shows toward me.  God knew what I needed when He gave me Josh.  Now don't get me wrong Josh is no saint, neither am I.  However, he is my daily dose of reality, calming, love and rationale.  There are times when I definitely don't feel "in love" with Josh, but then I ask myself what is that...  I Corinthians then pops into my head: " Love is patient, kind, does not envy, does not boast, does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things."

Again not sure where I am going with this other than to say I don't think you fall in and out of love.  Sometimes you may not "feel" like you are in love, but ultimately love is something that you do.  It is who you are and how you treat others.   I am thankful that God always loves me and does not give up on me.  I am thankful that God gives me people in my life sometimes difficult ones to show me his love.  Lastly, I am thankful God gave me Josh to give me little glimpses of His love for me..  I pray this made sense and wasn't just ramble...

Happy Birthday and Unique Experiences

This weekend July 13 to be exact was Josh's birthday.  Every year I struggle about what to get Josh, he is so hard to buy for.  However, this year I went against my grain.  I did not start planning for his birthday until last Thursday...  I usually start like a month ahead.  I realized there are definite perks to starting that far ahead, but all was not lost this year.  In only starting one week ahead all the gifts that I wanted to get for Josh were SOLD OUT!  However, I kept my cool and the gifts I ended up getting him he really liked.  However, the show stopper this year was a surprise trip to Marrakesh.  He had been talking about going to this place for a month or so.  I just kept saying, "we really don't have the money to do that".  So late last Thursday the thought popped into my head and I started contacting people from his work who he said he wanted to go with and the surprise planning began.  It all came together splendidly. He had no clue.  As we drove up to the valet parking in front of the restaurant he finally realized what was going on.  Marrakesh is a Moroccan restaurant in DC and it was wonderful.  Josh had such a good time and the experience was definitely unique and fun.  Many times during the night it was commented that it felt like, "we were in another country"  It felt when you walked through the front door you entered a time portal and were sent to an Indiana Jones movie..  I recommend it highly for anyone that likes trying different food and experiencing different cultures.  Josh said he will blog about it from his perspective as well!

OH Happy Day

And now time for a thought from Josh Burke:
That time of the year has come again. August 5th is the first Practice for the Rappahannock Rugby Football Club. I can't wait. I have actually been going to the Gym and trying to get into shape. I will more than likely start this season so if you have a Saturday open and you would like to see a wonderful sport let me know. I will arrange you being there. Also Ben Cartwright and Zac Castle will also be giving this whole Rugby thing a try. I've roped two more in. They will not be disappointed.

Honey DO.... I thought that was a melon

And now time for a thought form Josh Burke:
This is going to be the most controversial blog in "The Memoirs of Burke Manor" to date. The topic, every married man's nemesis..... the "Honey Do List". For those of you that don't know a "Honey Do List" is a list of chores that a wife spells out for her husband that she would like to see done. Jadey and I have been married for three years and to her defense she dose not abuse the honey do list idea. However, nothing steams my vegetables more than to be home from work sick, have a holiday off, or wake up Saturday to find, next to where I make my morning coffee no doubt, a list of expectations for the day. Just to let you know I will not enjoy that cup of joe with the chores looming over my head. The audacity. The wife assumes that the husband doesn't have plans for the day and takes the liberty to make those plans. I mean really how would the wife feel if she had a day to herself and the husband had a list for.
1. Clean the clothes
2. Clean the house (that also means the basement)
3. Have dinner on the table when I get home

You get the idea. That would go over as well as a fart in a space suit. The wife would be outraged. To which the husband replies "I didn't know you had any plans". Ya didn't ask. How dose my wife come up with these chores on such short notice is beyond me. Chores that I didn't realize were chores. Water the plants, feed the dogs, eat lunch. These are all things that i would do regardless of the list. All this to say, The "Honey Do List" is demeaning to the male gender. Also let me state that I love Jadey and wouldn't trade her and her list for the world.

Thankful.....

Many know that Josh and I have a small group Bible study that we do on Monday nights. It started about 4 years ago and God continues to bless. Last night we obviously had Bible study and our topic was the "Atonement". We have been working on this topic for about 3 weeks now. However, I guess last night was my eureka moment. Through the verbal pictures that were painted an idea became suddenly more real to me. The idea of Jesus facing everything that he went through on the cross: the physical pain, emotional pain, the bearing of our sin, God turning His back on him and God's wrath on his own. The idea of Jesus bearing all of that in his "human" sense. The thought then popped into my head, "I can't even bare a bad day on my own". This was very humbling and was another reminder of how awesome Jesus and the sacrifice on the cross really is.. We were reminded not to take for granted what the cross stands for and to reflect on it more often. In reflecting on it more, we may in turn show more humility and graciousness toward others. This blog does not do the lesson justice, just my thoughts.

Also Josh and I both are so thankful for the participation that continues to abound in this Bible study. We are thankful because the people who come have a special place in our lives. We have made some of the best friendships and we truly see Jesus in each and everyone that comes. We know as time passes, people come and go but God always knows what we need. He has blessed us immensely by each individual that comes whether it is through a conversation, action or just being there. For those of you out there that come and read this, thank you for what you mean to our lives. JKB

Zeitgiest.....Whatever Bro

And Now time for a thought from Josh Burke:
For those of you that don't know there is a movie that you can watch via the internet called Zietgiest. I must warn all that attempt to watch it must do so with a discerning eye. This is my commentary on the film. First I would like to say philosophy hasn't changed much since the time of Plato and Aristotle. This film is in some ways the repackaging of ancient ideas which are Man is the center of everything there is no God and the powers that be know this and created religion, war, and finance to stay in power. It is hard to see this theme at first glance but I am sure that if you listen hard and fast you will see several contradictions in this film. There are actually too many that if I listed some in this Blog it would not do my charge justice. All this to say these are hard times and our adversary is on the prowl and the twisting of truth to do harm. There is a God and he is there. If the church does not wake up. If we fail to meet the culture on these matters. If we stay satisfied with keeping to ourselves movies such as this one will continue to influence the people and make not only Christianity but the thought of religion in general a thing of the past. Put your thinking caps on and fight this battle for it may be the last battle we have to fight. Don't be afraid to ask the tough questions. All the time being as wise a serpents but as gentle as doves. There is a dying and lost world that is asking for the answers we have. Study up to give them that answer.

Who's on fist, What's on second

And Now Time for a Thought from Josh Burke:
I would first like to take the time to apologize to anyone that i may have offended today in Sunday School. I was having a real hard time for some reason with the wording being used. This is an often occurrence. I hear something and i get a total brain block until the issue is resolved. I realized the root of my
hermeneutics wondering once I talk to jadey about it for about an hour after church. I often listen to Christians and wonder what an unbeliever would think if they heard the same statement. This is an exercise to get me out of the habit of speaking Christianeze to unbelievers. Anyway thank you all for your patience and again sorry if i offended any of you. It was not my intention. If you are wondering about my conclusion feel free to ask.

Good Friends are Hard to Come By

And now time for a thought from Josh Burke:

Nothing could be more true than the title of this blog.  I have had a blessed life with several friends, some closer than others but all good.  Towards the top of my list is the illustrious Mila Thomas.  Mila is one of those people that you can just pick up were you left off the last time you met.  We have shared many interesting conversations over the years and I can always be myself with what I think in these conversations.  I would encourage all of you out there in blogville to seek this kind of relationship.  So on this day July 5th 2008 a blog goes out in honor of Mila Thomas a.k.a. Mila-Moo.

Proclaiming the tradition!

Fourth of July at Burke Manor has officially become a tradition.  Last year it was a much bigger to do, but this year with little planning involved it came together once again.  The day started out with tubing/kayaking down the Rappahannock river.  I have learned after two years of doing this now, that I must use a "kids" tube.  I am too short to use the small adult size tube, therefore my arms can barely reach the water and I am always at the end.  However, I wasn't alone this year.  Beth Jordan also fell into this same category, however she had Elliot to help propel her along!  So the first run down the river was a little uneventful and boring, but the second run after acquiring the kids tube was much better.  I am definitely feeling it today though!

After the tubing we joined back at Burke Manor for a rather large cookout and had more than enough food.  We got inside in record time before the storm ruined our BBQ!  It was a very fun time with the rest of the night consisting of fireworks at the YMCA and then a nice relaxing chat time on our back deck around the fire pit...  We will definitely keep up the tradition!

This was short lived

And Now Time for a Thought from Josh Burke:
First I would like to address the comments about the band name. I have been trying to post the comments but for whatever reason I can't see them. John Gauger and Jason Pelt both had the same Google search posted with the answer as to what McCaig's Folly is, but neither of them took a stab as to why I would name a band that. Soooo half way there gents, put your thinking caps on and keep guessing. Now onto the social experiment. The stipulation was as follows, I would blog every day for a month if and only if Jason and Bobby-O commented daily on the blog. Bobby-O has posted comments for every blog but two of those blogs were posted today. So there was a day missed. I think that this gets me off the hook for having to buy five people Starbucks. However, if I continue to blog Jason Pelt still owes me a drink of my choice, not to mention the social experiment must go on.

Day 2!

And Now Time for a Thought From Josh Burke:
Today was a stressful day at work. I had to move offices and conduct business at the same time. But now I am my brothers house ready for band practice/recording. The name of our band is McCraig's Folly. A Gold star will go to the person who can guess why I chose that name.

Clarification

Since our blog is entitled "Memoirs of Burke Manor" and Josh and I both reside at "Burke Manor", Josh and I will be sharing this blog. He will be blogging on this the entire month of July and I will continue to blog my usual. We have agreed to list our initials or mention in the blog who is blogging so readers are not confused. I am excited to see what the end result of his "social experiment" will be. I have a little social experiment of my own going on wit this whole "blog-off"... JKB

Let the experiment begin!!!!!!!

And Now Time for a Thought from Josh Burke:
There is nothing like a social experiment that gets my blood pumping. People in general fascinate me. What makes them tick, what they are thinking, why they use the words they use. What can I say I love to observe people and come up with my own conclusions to my own questions about them. Which leads us to the current phenomenon of blogging. This is the latest of things that I have been so, I don't know, annoyed about. The thought that I have something sooo important to say that literally the world needs access to it. I once vowed NEVER TO BLOG. Last Wednesday as I was talking to Jason Pelt, I realized that this is an opportunity to run a social experiment. I vowed to blog every day in the month of July. If I do so I am not really sure what the benefit is, but if I don't I have a few people to buy Starbucks for. The outcome of this social experiment I will post on the last day of July.

Happy Birthday, JPB!!!

Last night was good times at the home of Jonathan P. Burke. Jonathan celebrated his 25th birthday and it was a nice little get together.. It was a night of "tuna fish and pickles" that's a Burke family joke, cake, ice cream and good music. Bobby-O performed his "Good News" song one of my favorites, with Keilan soloing on the organ! It wouldn't be a night with Jason Pelt, if he wasn't initiating some sort of "blog off" or competition!! Josh has agreed to blog one time daily every day in July.. You can read more about this on Jason's blog... Why would the man who has trouble remembering to do his time for work, sign up to have to remember something daily??? I love him anyway....

Comments from.. the Peanut Gallery

PITS, June 21, 2008 overall was great.  I have to say my favorite part of the evening was the "spiced" up introductions by MC Jason Pelt..  He truly is an MC at heart and I don't know anyone that could have done it better.  All of the performances were great and in my opinion the turn out was wonderful.  The funds that were raised to support Mission:Indonesia were not too shabby either.  Camille's was a wonderful atmosphere to host this event inside and out!  Camille's seemed to be poppin all night and I know I was happy to help support Camille's and Mission:Indonesia.  My favorite songs of the night had to be hands down: Bobby O's "Good News" and of course Josh Burke's "My Lady Fair".  I am not partial to that last one at all!!  If you weren't able to make it out you missed a great show.  However, I am sure there will be more to come in the future.

A Day To Remember

Twenty-seven, I am beginning to feel old!  However, I will not dwell on that since I had an amazing day.  The day began with me sleeping in until 10:30am!  I slowly woke up, at breakfast with Josh and then he gave me my present.  I have been wanting a bluetooth ear piece for my phone and  Josh sparing no expense got me the "Jawbone".  I was very excited, now I don't have to tilt my neck to talk on my cell when I am driving.  This motion was giving me great pain in my neck and back...  Technology is great!  Then the day proceeded with Josh helping me organize some photo albums that I had been wanting to complete forever..  He was a trooper.  Later that day I took a nap, while Josh practiced guitar.  Then upon waking from my nap, Josh and I finished watching a movie we had started the night before.  After the movie Josh was in quite the hurry to get to dinner, so we left to go to the place of my choice.  Bangkok Thai, I love that place..  It was just what I was in the mood for.  Josh left the table several times during dinner, I was a little concerned but figured he had to go to the bathroom or something.  While we were waiting for the bill, Josh's leg began to bother him and he quickly stated that we needed to go straight home because he was not feeling well!  We arrived back at home, all for me to find three cars sitting in front of my house.  My parents, Josh's parents and Jonathan were all there and my parents had made a cake for me!  It was a nice little party!  We had cake and my favorite "watermelon" roll from Friendly's and presents of course.  The day was truly the best, I wouldn't have wished it any other way...

What am I to do?

Being faced with the possibility of a debilitating medical condition is to say the least frightening. Your human instincts of "take control", "fight" or even "give up" overwhelm you. However, knowing that there is a God who formed me and knows me better than I know myself brings comfort. Comfort that has not been easy to come by within the past 24 hours. The thoughts that come to me are:

What am I to do, but trust You
What am I to do, but love You
Deep inside my faith is shifting
What am I to do, to hear You
Waves of wander and uncertainty crash on me
What am I to do, to serve You

"Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes. I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

I pray for healing and ultimately GRACE. Whatever the future holds I pray for Grace to accept whatever the outcome might be.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone, because I know He holds the future and life is worth the living just because He lives!

The Not So Great Escape!

This post will be way to long if I try to recap a blow by blow of the weekend.  However as you can suspect from the title it wasn't the best backpacking trip I have ever been on.  The attenders and fellowship was great, the experience not so great.  The weekend had its fare share of laughs and frustrations.  It was a weekend of being thrown off course, due to park rangers not knowing what they were talking about and not so great weather on Saturday.  A trek that should have kept us going until Sunday afternoon, ended on Saturday around 4pm.  Oh, well maybe next time!  All in all the weekend was fun and good memories were made.  If you want the fully acted out rendition of the trip talk to Josh.  Oh, and last but not least don't ever take the advice of park ranger Jason Strickler he doesn't know what he is talking about...

Sea Urchins

Memorial day weekend in the eyes of many is the kick off to summer. The usual Memorial Day tradition is to go camping in Luray. This is a weekend full of smores, swimming, antiquing, and the annual volleyball tournament. This year this event did not commence, however the events that did were very memorable and lots of fun was had.

FRIDAY
This spectacular weekend began on Friday with an evening of PITS. I know, you say what is PITS. PITS stands for "Playing in the streets" an open mic type of event that has just begun. This was a good time of singing, live music and being able to hang out with great friends from church. Friday ended hanging out with the one the only Dowker and his lovely girls.

SATURDAY
Saturday commenced with doing some yard work at "The Manor", it is finally finished at least what I had set out to accomplish this year. The evening agenda held a trip to King George, to Jenna's birthday. Carpooling with us were Kristen and Debra, freezing in the back due to Josh needing to have the top down on the JEEP. The party was a good time, I experienced adult sized "bouncy balls" for the first time. I of course found them to be dangerous, why wouldn't I! However, I looked past the danger and participated in a bouncy ball race. All the while Damian and a few others were betting that I would be the first to fall off the bouncy ball. Sure enough I did fall off the ball and cheering commenced.... The good name of "The Nation" was misrepresented that night by my lack of bouncy ball athleticism. The night ended with good music and a trip home in the JEEP with the top back on.

SUNDAY
Sunday we did Q-town music and then headed to my parents house. Sunday was pretty uneventful, however we did go and see Prince Caspian. I really liked the movie, and was told that I would because I have not read the book. Whatever the case may be I liked the movie..

MONDAY
Monday began with a classic holiday or weekend wake up call by my favorite and only bro in law.. Not too bad this time, he waited till 9:30am. We spent the AM hanging out with Jon, shopping, riding through town in the JEEP with the top down. At lunch I experienced Allman's BBQ for the first time, very good not gonna lie. We returned home mid afternoon and loaded up the JEEP for my first Kayaking trip. I was very much so looking forward to it. The ride to Aquia Landing was awesome. The top was off the JEEP and the doors at this point, it was a beautiful day not too hot or too cold. We arrive at the landing and begin unloading the Kayaks, as I am dodging bugs left and right. Josh decided that we would launch off the rocks, if you have ever been to Aquia Landing you will know what I am talking about. This was quite the challenge, for me the newbie to try to balance myself on these rocks while getting into the Kayak. However I was successful and the paddling began. It was a nice little paddle, flat water no worries of tipping over. We saw some Swans and a few fish jumping. Then we came into the merk of nasty sea weed. I know, you say you weren't at sea Jadey but that is all I know to call it. It got so bad at one point I stopped paddling, because my paddle got stuck in the weeds and I almost tipped over. Oh, dear to think if I would have fallen into that mess. However, I decided to keep trying due to Josh being far ahead of me. It was at this point that I actually threw sea weed up onto my arms and I immediately freaked out. I started whining and Josh looks back, all to say a typical Burke comment. "I guess Kayaking was a bad choice". I quickly get the sea weed off of me and try to start paddling again. Upon looking down toward my paddle I notice this little creature making his/her way up my arm. I again freak out and call ahead to Josh, "Icck, I have a Sea Urchin crawling up my arm". Josh breaks into hysterics and informs me of what a Sea Urchin actually is. He paddles back to me and assures me I did not have a Sea Urchin on my arm. Whatever it was it was gross, but all in all I enjoyed the Kayaking voyage. I will definitely go again, just not at Aquia Landing. The night was capped off with attendance at Darcy's 2nd birthday party. It was a joy, a time of good fellowship, games and good food. This is one of the best Memorial Day weekends I have experienced and it will definitely make it to the list of weekends to remember.

The Hip Bones Connected To....

Since the beginning of 2008, I (Jadey) have had my fair share of pokes and sticks and visits to the doctor.  After having a scare with an abnormal brain MRI, having MS ruled out for the time being and a very scary trip to the ER due to an oral allergy to onions I thought my days at the doctor were over.  At least for a little while!  However, Thursday proved that theory wrong.  I was enjoying myself at a work retreat at "Graves Mountain", beautiful place if you have never been.  It was a nice day, we got away from the office and I was enjoying the nice fresh mountain air.  For about a day prior to this trip I had been experiencing what I could only describe as a "crick" in my neck.  I just ignored it and went on about my daily tasks.  Thursday as I was sitting and enjoying myself, I got a sharp "burning" pain at the base of my skull that shot pains up into the left side of my head.  It was not comfy at all so I started to rub it, this led to my heart racing, dizziness, difficulty swallowing etc. etc.  Of course for those that know me well, I always go to the extreme.  I immediately think I am having a stroke, something very serious so that of course induces my panic more!!  My thoughts are, "oh great, I am having a stroke and stuck up here on this mountain with no cell reception."  I can never think, oh I am just really dizzy..  Anywhoo, long story short.  I got some fresh air and ate some food, the pain and dizziness did not go away.  I finally came home at the end of the day and scheduled an appointment with my neuro doctor.  On Friday I went to visit him and he proceeded to tell me every symptom I had the day previous, without me even mentioning the majority of them.  He then shared that I had stressed, aggravated or pinched my Occipital nerve.  He then shared that this nerve connects to muscles etc in my neck, mouth, shoulder etc etc.  I stated to him that I thought it was nuts how one little nerve could do all that.  He then said, "don't you remember that song The Hip Bones Connected to the...."

The manor needs an expansion fund...

Going on about four years now Josh and I have hosted a small week night Bible study.  This study was originally designed to study various chapters in the Bible and discuss them on a week to week basis.  The Bible study's original members were Josh, myself, Amber, and Gerry.  We began in the book of Romans, we were challenged to look beyond the end of our nose and see things in "context".  This Bible study caused us to grow close to one another and really develop accountabilities between one another.  After a year or so the Bible study eventually began to grow with Dowker, Benedict, The Quann's, Aaron, Jennie and eventually the Hintons joining the group.  Throughout the weeks various others would pop in and visit, but for a long time it remained around 7-12 in attendance.  Until recently, the Bible study overnight has ruptured and last night we had an amazing 28 in attendance!!!  Josh and I would of course like to think it is because we are so wonderful, however we know that God has brought each and everyone of these individuals into our lives.  Each week Josh plans and prepares for the lesson and each week we are amazed at how much God teaches us through the people who attend.  Each person that comes is unique in their own way, adding major characteristics and dynamics to the group.  We thank God that he has given us the opportunity to serve Him in such a way.  Through the few years of the Bible study we have had "members" move out of town or not come due to scheduling and these transitions are always tough. We miss these people dearly. However, the Lord always brings new people that we sit back and thank God what would the study be like if this person would have never come.  To sum this all up, Josh and I are basically thankful for the fellowship, challenges and growth that this small Bible study brings into our lives. Needless to say if 28 continues, "The manor needs an expansion fund".

The end has come... For now!

If you keep updated with the Memoir blog you will remember a past post entitled "A weekend not to worry".  It was regarding Josh and his Rugby team and how every week that he has a game I worry to death.  Well the spring season has finally come to an end and thankfully Josh has chosen not to play over the summer.  This means that I have three glorious months not to worry, at least about Rugby that is.  Now other issues, I can make no promises.  However, in a way I am telling a falsehood or lie whatever you choose to call it.  Reason being is that this season was our starting "hookers" last season ( a hooker is a rugby position).  He and his wife are moving to Ohio.  Now you say, "well why would this worry you"?  Reason is, guess what position Josh plays?  Ding, Ding, Ding you guessed it "hooker".  So now my worry has been taken to a new level.  Josh will now more than likely be starting every game...  I am very excited for him, as I mentioned in my past post because he really likes playing the game.  However, I seriously am going to die young due to the worry this causes me!!  The fall season begins the end of August, I am sure Josh would love to have some supporters/fans!!

"More than I can chew" ???

Athletics, oh to be an athlete!  I have always wanted to be an athlete, but it just never came easy for me.  My hand eye coordination is not the greatest and my endurance, let's just say my body doesn't compute that word.  However, I recently began to ponder this issue and wondered if my lack of ability was more a lack of trying.  Then I recalled all the childhood sports I had "tried" and failed miserably at.  The only thing I think I might have been quasi good at was "shuttle run", 50 yard dash and putt - putt.  Yes, I know putt - putt is not technically a sport.  In doing well at putt - putt though, I inquired about golf lessons.  Josh agreed I could get these for my upcoming birthday, however I talked myself out of them.  I mean just think about it taking a golf lesson equals: buying clubs, paying for tee time, buying shoes and "collared" shirts.  I am too frugal for all that.  In turn I have begun taking tennis lessons, I already had a racket and I just use the local courts that are free.  My first lesson was this past Tuesday and it went fairly well.  However, my athletic endeavor does not stop there.  I also agreed to run the Richmond half marathon with Amber in November.  Our training started this week or should I say today, two eight week training schedules followed by a grueling ten week schedule right before the race.  Whoever said running makes you feel good lied!!  I may have bitten off more than I can chew!!

Our very own Pop In!

A few weeks back I was reading some of Jason Pelt's old posts and came across the one regarding "pop in's".  I was oh to curious to pass that one up and came to find out that Clint Clifton had in turn challenged the Pelt's to a Pop In dual.  I thought this whole idea was hilarious, due to the fact that I could see myself being annoyed by "pop in's".  However, a few months back Josh and I had a pop in from one Annie Garman.  It of course was a joy and since that time I had wondered when we might have another.  Contrary to popular belief this particular pop in did not cause total distress to my "schedule" and I actually appreciated the change that it produced in my day.  This past Thursday Josh and I had the excitement of our second pop in from the Slacks!  It actually would not have been a pop in, if Josh would ever check his messages on his phone.  However in this instance I was glad he failed to check, because it was exciting to see Amber and Gerry show up at our front door.  A good time of chatting was had, however I did not follow the "pop in" etiquette because I did not offer them food or drinks.  I know, I know that is awful!!!

Mimi's Cafe, Excellent all the way around!

This weekend Josh and I were treated to lunch by my parents at "Mimi's Cafe". When I first heard the name I was like, what! This does not sound good. The phrase, "don't knock it until you try it" was definitely true for me. Let me tell you, this restaurant is five stars all the way around. We had great service, great food and the prices were way reasonable. You seriously can go to Mimi's and get one plate and it will serve 2-3 people. For dessert we got the "triple chocolate brownie" it was excellent and it served all four of us. If you are looking for a nice place to go eat as a family, for date night, girls night out whatever the occasion this is a great choice!!

A Weekend Not To Worry

For those who know me "Jadey" well you may notate me as a worry wort.  I mean who goes for an MRI and worries the magnet will somehow come loose and crush your head, Me!  There is this wonderful sport known as Rugby, who many would consider violent, rough and possibly dangerous.  For whatever reason my very reasonable and sensible husband decided to join the local Rappahannock Rugby Team.  He has been on this team for two seasons and has yet to get a major injury, PRAISE THE LORD.  However, every week there is a game I without a doubt begin to worry.  I know you say, "you shouldn't worry", "worry is a sin" but it is not that easy for me.  This worry often causes me to pace up and down the sidelines and jump up with concern when the "pack" falls down etc.  You get the picture.  Glory, Glory though this weekend Josh can not participate in the game.  I am not happy that he can't participate, I realize this sport brings him great joy.  However I am overjoyed that I can be rugby worry FREE, at least for this weekend.
