We would like this blog to encapsulate exactly what the title refers to. The "memoirs", the memories, the observations and the life experiences that occur at Burke Manor. Why Burke Manor, you ask? Anytime someone new would come to visit our home Josh would always say, "welcome to Burke Manor". It just sort of stuck so now we have, "The Memoirs of Burke Manor".

"More than I can chew" ???
Athletics, oh to be an athlete! I have always wanted to be an athlete, but it just never came easy for me. My hand eye coordination is not the greatest and my endurance, let's just say my body doesn't compute that word. However, I recently began to ponder this issue and wondered if my lack of ability was more a lack of trying. Then I recalled all the childhood sports I had "tried" and failed miserably at. The only thing I think I might have been quasi good at was "shuttle run", 50 yard dash and putt - putt. Yes, I know putt - putt is not technically a sport. In doing well at putt - putt though, I inquired about golf lessons. Josh agreed I could get these for my upcoming birthday, however I talked myself out of them. I mean just think about it taking a golf lesson equals: buying clubs, paying for tee time, buying shoes and "collared" shirts. I am too frugal for all that. In turn I have begun taking tennis lessons, I already had a racket and I just use the local courts that are free. My first lesson was this past Tuesday and it went fairly well. However, my athletic endeavor does not stop there. I also agreed to run the Richmond half marathon with Amber in November. Our training started this week or should I say today, two eight week training schedules followed by a grueling ten week schedule right before the race. Whoever said running makes you feel good lied!! I may have bitten off more than I can chew!!

I can show you some golf pointers if you like, but I will say that lessons are invaluable. I had a wicked slice when I started golfing; when I took lessons, that disappeared.
